Boiling Point 2300–2327℃
Crystal Structure Fluorite structure
Solubility Insoluble in water and common inorganic acids, soluble in perchloric acid
Stability Stable at high temperature, strong chemical inertness, slightly hygroscopic in air

3. Main Preparation Processes

Wet Precipitation Method (Main Industrial Method)

Using lanthanum-cerium chloride or lanthanum-cerium nitrate solution as raw material, heat to 70–80℃ and add hydrofluoric acid dropwise for precipitation reaction. The product is obtained after washing, filtration, drying and vacuum dehydration.

Solid-Phase Fluorination Method

Lanthanum-cerium oxide powder reacts with fluorinating agents (such as NH₄F, HF) at high temperature, suitable for the preparation of high-purity powder.

4. Key Application Fields

Optical Materials

Used in the preparation of high-refractive-index optical glass, infrared window materials, optical fibers and laser crystals; used as optical coating to improve transmittance and anti-reflection performance.

Polishing Materials

Made into lanthanum-cerium fluoride polishing powder for high-precision polishing of high-end display glass substrates, special alloys and flat glass, with high polishing speed and durability.

Catalysis and Energy

Used as an active component of catalysts for petroleum cracking and desulfurization to improve reaction efficiency; applied to modify the light absorption layer of solar cells to optimize light-harvesting efficiency.

Metallurgy and Electronics

Used as steelmaking additive to refine grains and improve steel toughness; used in the preparation of phosphors, luminescent materials and special ceramics.

5. Safety and Storage

  • Safety: Dust is irritating. Avoid inhalation and skin contact. Non-flammable, but risk of dust cloud explosion should be prevented.
  • Storage: Store sealed, dry and in a cool place, away from humid environment to avoid moisture absorption and caking.
