Product Description
Competitive Price &High Purity Cerium Hydroxide Rare Earth Powder Raw Material
Cerium(IV) Hydroxide
Cerium(IV) hydroxide, usually referring to tetravalent cerium hydroxide, is an important rare earth compound with the chemical formula Ce(OH)₄.
1. Basic Information
· CAS No.: 12014-56-1
· Molecular Weight: 208.15
· Synonyms: Ceric hydroxide, hydrated cerium dioxide
2. Physical and Chemical Properties
· Appearance: Amorphous powder in light yellow, brownish yellow or off-white.
· Solubility: Insoluble in water and weak acids, soluble in concentrated inorganic acids (such as hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, sulfuric acid) to form corresponding cerium salts.
· Chemical Characteristics
o Strong oxidizing property: Cerium exists in the +4 valence state and exhibits strong oxidizing activity.
o Oxygen storage capacity: The variable valence between Ce⁴⁺/Ce³⁺ endows it with excellent oxygen storage/release performance.
o Air sensitivity: Easily absorbs CO₂ from air and gradually converts into cerium carbonate.
3. Preparation Method
The precipitation method is mainly adopted in industry:
· Use cerium nitrate (Ce(NO₃)₄) or cerium chloride (CeCl₄) solution as raw materials.
· Add sodium hydroxide (NaOH) or ammonia water (NH₃·H₂O) as precipitant.
· Control pH and temperature to form cerium(IV) hydroxide precipitate.Ce4++4OH−→Ce(OH)4↓
4. Main Applications
Glass Industry
· Decolorizing/clearing agent: Removes green tint caused by iron impurities in glass and improves transparency.
· Polishing powder: Used for precision polishing of optical glass, eyeglass lenses and display screens.
Environmental Catalysis
· Three-way catalyst: Core material for automobile exhaust purification, converting CO, NOₓ and hydrocarbons.
· Catalyst support: Used in fuel cells and organic synthesis catalysis.
Other Fields
· Plastic stabilizer (for PVC)
· Ceramic additive
· Raw material for preparing other cerium compounds
5. Storage
Store in a sealed, dry and cool place to prevent deterioration caused by carbon dioxide absorption.
Cerium Hydroxide
Molecular Formula: Ce(OH)₄
Appearance: Cerium hydroxide is a pale yellow powder
Application: Used as a clarifying and decolorizing agent in the glass industry, and as a raw material for the production of high-cerium compounds.
